    Internship at WVEN-TV

    WVEN-TV offers internships for college students. The station remains committed to the belief that practical work experience adds realism to classroom theory and concepts. WVEN-TV views internships as a vital part of a student’s preparation for employment. Through the Internship Program, WVEN-TV invests in tomorrow’s workforce by offering challenging educational opportunities today.

    What can students gain from the program?

    The classroom setting provides an excellent forum for acquiring and analyzing information; likewise, a successful internship affords students the chance to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real life situations. As an intern at WVEN-TV, students can test their creative talent, exercise their analytical skills, and increase their understanding of broadcast operations and industry trends. In addition, through their interactions with established professionals, interns often find mentors and role models who can help to facilitate their career planning.

    In what departments are internship opportunities generally available?

    WVEN-TV internships are available in News, Production, Promotions, Public Relations & Affairs, and Sales & Marketing Research. The number of internships available in each of these departments may vary from semester to semester.

    What does WVEN-TV look for in an intern?

    Ideal candidates for WVEN-TV internships are at least 18 years old and current college students. Students majoring in a related field to the internship desired are preferred, however, students majoring in other areas will also be considered.

    When are internships available?

    Internships are available year-round. Most internships range from 3 to 6 months. Days and hours are flexible and may vary on the assignment and student schedule. ALL INTERNSHIPS ARE UNPAID AND IN EXCHANGE FOR COLLEGE CREDITS ONLY.

    How does an intern receive college credit for an internship?

    The allocation of college credit is at the discretion of your college or university. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete the appropriate forms/paperwork in order to receive college credit for their internship experience. Students are also responsible for meeting any college or university registration requirements related to the internship. WVEN-TV will assist students with the completion of forms or provide information concerning the internship experience. The final authority on credits received remains with the college or university and/or its designated representatives.

    WVEN-TV recognizes that a good internship program can add practical experience to the education a student gains in college or graduate school. Therefore, the station has established an Internship Program in which students may work and earn academic credit. Interns will be closely supervised and critiqued in order to maximize the learning experience.

    Job Description/Responsibilities:

    Ideal candidate must be able to research, write, produce and present news stories on the air. Must be able to originate and develop story ideas and write scripts for assigned news shows. The News Anchor serves as a representative of the station in community and civic affairs.  Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Write, Deliver newscasts, news reporting and specials reports when assigned
    • Live shots or field anchor as needed
    • Edit stories as assigned
    • Make public appearances/community involvement
    • Front station promos
    • Develop contacts in the community and become involved in community projects

    Job Requirements/Qualifications

    • Minimum of three years on-air anchoring or reporting experience preferred
    • College degree with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism or Communications preferred
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication in Spanish and English
    • Strong organizational and delivery skills
    • Excellent presentations and reportorial skills
    • Knowledge of journalistic standards as related to the on-air presentation of the news
    • Must be able to work well under pressure and with others to develop and execute compelling newscast
    • Must be self-motivated and creative
    • Must write stories that have been assigned in a compelling and accurate manner
    • Always follow the producer's instructions
    • Cooperate with producers at any time needed
    •  Actively listen and follow directions in the newsroom
    • Send daily story ideas to the producer/News Director. 
    • Participates on daily editorial meetings, pitches story ideas and showcasing of daily stories
    • Do in-house packages and re-track stories when needed
    • Voice over the news briefs on a daily basis as assigned by the producer
    • Work with other producers and anchor to craft "anchor moments" throughout the newscasts.
    • Engage viewers daily on talent Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts
    • Participates in community events and represent those appearances on social media.

    Job Title: Senior Regional Integrated Marketing Solutions Consultant (IMSC)

    Job Description/Responsibilities:

    WVEN/WOTF/WNUE, Entravision, Central Florida’s #1 Spanish media cluster, seeks a savvy IMSC to work within established Sales Department guidelines to maintain and increase sales volume with existing accounts and aggressively seek new customers. Execute plans and strategies set forth by sales management.  Maintain awareness of the competition.  Maintain visibility in the community.     The IMSC will work in the Orlando office and will report to the VP, IMS and Senior Vice President (SVP), IMS. The ideal candidate will be responsible for presenting the benefits of Spanish language advertising on our Radio station (Salsa 98.1 WNUE-FM), Television (WVEN-TV26) and (WOTF-TV43) and Associated Interactive properties to local business owners and/or advertising agencies. The IMSC is to use their interpersonal skills to sell commercial airtime, digital media, event sponsorships, and/or customized marketing campaigns designed to achieve the client’s objectives. Candidates should be highly motivated to contribute new ideas that incorporate Radio, TV and internet advertising into successful campaigns for local partners. The IMSC is expected to translate approved ad sales strategies and goals into sales programs for assigned accounts and be aware of competitive ad sales practices. Communicate with VP, IMS on a regular basis in regard to established quarterly revenue goals and the efforts to increase client base. Additional job requirements also include research, promotions development, servicing client accounts as well as networking. Some weekend work is required.  

    Job Requirements/Qualifications:  

    • Bilingual (Spanish-English) a plus
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently
    • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
    • Effective sales, business development/hunting and marketing skills
    • Strong negotiation, time management and organizational skills
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Marketing preferred
    • Prior media Experience a plus
